Audio Quality

Sonicam 360 camera is one of the few cameras that focuses on 3D audio quality. Most noteworthy the camera has 64 microphones that enables us some fancy audio features. Those features include ambisonic sound field recording, beam forming microphone array for noise reduction and 3D audio core algorithm technology. The Sonicam 360 camera can perfectly record the field sound from everywhere, far and near. As a result, the sounds in immersive content will automatically follow your movement as you rotate the video. The website mentions that the CTO has been in the 3D video and sound technology field for over 10 years. This makes sense because of the feature set specifically for 3D audio.  The output sound format is AAC, ambisonic B format and Quad binaral.

Live Streaming

The camera also supports live streaming, which is a main feature for most professional level cameras. Live streaming targets users who want to do news coverage, sports, concerts or any immersive content to experience live.  Live output Resolution (pixels) of 4k at 30fps H.264/H.265. With in camera stitching you are also enabled to live preview the current scene that the cameras are viewing.

Like most cameras at this price rang, you get a very advanced customization of ISO, White Balance, Shutter, Gamma, Brightness, Sharpness, Saturation, Contrast and more.

Cost and Release Date

The cost of the Sonicam is $3,000 as a Kickstarter exclusive and estimated retail of $4,000 MSRP.  The release date is estimated Oct 2017 for the Kickstarter cameras.

Overview

First of all, I do enjoy the fact that they are focusing on 3D spacial audio so much. Most content creators you talk to say that sounds is a very important role in directing the user to the correct scene of the story. Obviously in 360 degrees it is hard to keep the attention of the user viewing the immersive content.  From what I can remember the highest count of microphones on any other 360 camera was maybe 6 or 8.
