iZugar Z8XL Review

Image of the iZugar Z8XL 360 camera rig

Stereo is definitely the next big thing for VR! As a professional producer, have you ever satisfied with the quality made with small sensors with action camera, but not ready to spend $30k or $45k rig for your serious 360 3D video work? The challenger is here at your service. 360 video at DSLR quality can now be an easy task with the Z8XL rig.

There is no stitching software that is including with the iZugar, so if you don’t already have a favorite software package I would suggest one of the following : Kolor AVP3, Nuke / CaraVR, Video Stitch, StereoStitch, PTGui or any other optical flow based engines.

Modular Design

When needed you can turn the rig into a monoscopic rig or even 3D180 with optional accessories.

Some Assembly Required

You do have to assembly the rig yourself, but with enough directions you should be able to do it pretty easily.

iZugar Z4XL

The iZugar Z8XL is a stereoscopic rig at the cost of around $10,000.  In my opinion it is a little expensive with only an output size of 3D 5k x 3k @30fps (5400 x 2700 @ 30 fps). You also have to assemble the rig yourself which opens the possibilities of making a number of different mistakes. Remember, the iZugar rig does not include software so by purchasing stitching software you are probably going to add another $500 – 1000 depending on what software you want to use.  Compare this setup with the YI Halo Google array or the older GoPro Odyssey Google array. There are also much cheaper 3D cameras such as the Insta360 Pro and the Kandao Obsidian.
