Elmo QBiC Panorama X VR Camera System

The Elmo QBiC Panaorama X is a 360 VR Camera System for four QBiC cameras. Similar to most multi-camera rigs you have to operate each individual camera and have to do post production stitching. If you are used to using QBiC cameras then this rig might be easy to understand and go through the complete workflow.

Elmo is a Japanese based company that has been designing and manufacturing cameras since the early 1920s. Recently the company paired with VideoStitch’s groundbreaking VR software to bring the new Elmo QUBIC Panorama VR camera system to life. At first glance, it appears to be four cameras simply mounted together, but digging deeper reveals a handful of surprising features. First, the QBIC is capable of recording a full sphere. Each camera, capturing 180-degree angles, is stitched together to create the system’s horizontal and vertical 360-degree view.

The exclusion of the popular fisheye lenses, although they’ve useful for shooting wide-angle and panoramic images, will help reduce awkward glares. It uses 1080P rather than 4K resolution, which means the quality will be noticeably diminished, and with 5mp stills, it is far better suited for video than photographs. The QBIC gives you manual control over a few of the settings, like shutter speed and white balance, but ISO and optional shooting modes are still unknown. It accomplishes, with just four cameras, what has taken six or more for most other systems, and all four cameras start and stop with the touch of a single button.

The QBIC can handle up to 64Gb of microSD storage, which is convenient but not impressive. It features a built-in microphone and speaker, WI-FI capability, and HDMI output. At 1.53lbs, almost 7 times the weight of the Kodak PIXPRO, it may be less ideal for heavily active sports than rival cameras with 360-degree capabilities.
